    Originally, I had thought that this particular tree was a Water Oak. They are native in Arkansas. I had never noticed the little chains of flowers on the leaves as they budded before... nor the fuzzy reddish-green baby leaves. I was amazed when I got up close to them that they were so soft and pretty. I just had to take a picture. After studying the tree some, I decided that I wanted to know what type of oak it was (oaks have acorns, so I knew already that it was in the oak family). There is such a long list of oaks. After careful study, however, I am certain that this is a Blackjack Oak.

    It looks pretty similar to the Water Oak, except for the tips of the leaves.

    Thanks for all of your sweet comments. I loved this photo - and wasn't sure everyone else would. ;) Glad you like it. Today was supposed to be the first day of Spring... and I had no idea when I posted the photo. It was a nice surprise when I looked at my calendar.

    It's a sign of spring, but it looks like it could hurt you. Let's just say...I wouldn't touch it and I wouldn't want it in my yard. Kind of scary looking. Have a great WW!
