Boy, it's hard to wait on the Lord. Right now, we are in month 6 of a situation that is very much like the sinking of the Titanic. Our boat, however, is our finances... and we are trapped in the economy seats below deck - watching the cold water come seeping in.
We don't always understand why God doesn't answer us right away, or why He doesn't answer in the way we would choose. Sometimes deliverance would hinder our growth. Sometimes it's not in His plan. Whatever the reason, we are told to keep praying - and that the Lord, who has our best interest at heart, will meet our needs in Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 - 16Be joyful always; 17pray continually; 18give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
Oswald Chambers in his book "My Utmost for His Highest" writes, "Wait for God's timing and He will do it without any heartache or disappointment. When it is a question of the providential will of God, wait for God to move." This is so true. When things are in God's hands, there are no regrets and there is peace. When God handles a situation, the outcome is far greater than you could have imagined.
I have been writing in my prayer journal for months about the house selling. Instead of looking at the unanswered prayers, I need to turn my face to the Lord and trust that his timing is as perfect as always. After all, it was a miracle that we were able to buy this house anyway. It was a gift. I need to remember that God is in control.
I take heart in the fact that even King David, who was called a "Man after God's own heart" asked God many times in the Psalms "How long, O Lord?" The refining fire of the Lord's charachter-shaping furnace is never painless, and sometimes is an infuriatingly slow process.
Isaiah 48:10 - See, I have refined you, though not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.
I am sure that on the other side of this Titanic is a life boat that will take us to safety and a future that is better than we could have hoped or imagined. We will choose to trust in the Lord. I would rather be walking through the fire with God than be without Him.
1 Peter 5:6 - Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.
There are a couple of really great songs on the Christian stations right now. I'll have to link a few great Chrisitan radio stations in here soon. Here is one of my favorite 'waiting on the Lord' songs. The lady who sings it has a voice like an angel. She is also blind. It is good to remember that it's NEVER as bad as it COULD get... there are at least a hundred thousand people who have life worse than you do right now. I'll have to post the other song tomorrow... you can download the songs at Wal-Mart for less than a dollar a song.

"If You Want Me To"
The pathway is broken
And The signs are unclear
And I don't know the reason why You brought me here
But just because You love me the way that You do
I'm gonna walk through the valley
If You want me to
Cause I'm not who I was
When I took my first step
And I'm clinging to the promise
You're not through with me yet
so if all of these trials
bring me closer to you
Then I will go through the fire
If You want me to
It may not be the way I would have chosen
When you lead me through a world that's not my home
But You never said it would be easy
You only said I'd never go alone
So When the whole world turns against me
And I'm all by myself
And I can't hear You answer
my cries for help
I'll remember the suffering
Your love put You through
And I will go through the valley
If You want me to
