Wow! This is a really great resource! Thanks for sharing!
Heather, could you recommend any curriculum for preK? My eldest will be 4 in April, and I want to get a head start on homeschooling. Also, I will be attending the book fair in Arlington this year for the first time. Could you give some advice on what to do, what to look for, etc for the first-time attendee?
Oh - you are so gonna love this - I thought of you when we found this book at the library today - and then I get here and THIS is what you posted about - "art" - hee hee
The book is called The Kid's Guide to Drawing America: How to Draw Texas's Sights and Symbols. It starts with some info about artists in Texas and then has drawing projects such as a map of the state, the state seal, the state flag, the bluebonnet, the pecan tree, mockingbird, a cowboy, the Alamo, a space shuttle, the state capitol - and it is full of state facts, and each of the projects has some information about that thing with it. I can't wait to use it when we study state history! Coolish!
homeschool mommy - Thanks for letting me know that you enjoyed the link!
jewls - that book sounds awesome! I just checked out over 45 books, however... so I'll have to wait to check it out until next time we load up. :)
WE'RE MOVING ON TO THE NEXT UNIT NEXT MONDAY! I AM SO EXCITED!!!!
Hi Ami!
I sure can offer you some advice… of course, it is mostly already on my blog, so I hope you don’t mind if I give you links to read. We started homeschooling in Preschool. What a fun age. If you check out my homeschooling series post, you can see most of what we did that year (as far as curriculums, field trips, computer programs, books we read, etc.). My son was 4.5 and my daughter 2.5 when we started out.
Arlington is the BEST place to start off - as far as book fairs go. Don’t buy everything you see (I know you’ll be tempted). I usually only spend a little bit of money at the book fairs and enjoy browsing. The MOST important part of the book fair is the SPEAKERS!!! Do not miss Diana Warring, the HULCYS (Wade or Jessica), Renee Ellison, Sally CLARKSON!!!!, Little Bear Wheeler, the Mally kids, etc. You can buy tapes if you can’t fit all the conference sessions in. Make sure to wear sneakers, take a backpack to check in, bring a sack lunch if you want to save some money!, and wear a fanny pack if you want to prevent carrying your heavy purse. It is very overwhelming the first time you go.
The day before the book fair, Six Flags is open for homeschoolers only. They offer discount tickets if you buy in advance. They are already probably selling out hotels in the area, too. THE BEST ADVICE I CAN GIVE YOU IS TO RELY ON THE LORD (HEAVILY) AND TO RELAX (think Sweet HOT Chocolate rather than Sour COLD Lemonaid) – ENJOY LEARNING, SMILING, LAUGHING, READING, PLAYING, SINGING, AND JUST BEING WITH YOUR KIDS.

I hope those links will help! ;) Email me any time if you want to ask me something else.
I also sent this to your email address... in case you forget to come back in for my reply. ;)
I found this really cool website that has amazing chocolate art canvases. They have chocolate art supplies that my children love and my art students enjoy. They are the only company that I know of that has these type of supplies. They also have chocolate clay dough. Its like play dough except it is safe to eat and taste and smells like chocolate. Yummy!!! www.bellamentechocolate.com
