This comic in the Austin paper made me want to go turn every stinkin' halogen light in my house on. I resisted for the sake of my energy bill.
Meanwhile, down the street, despite a surplus, gas went up another ten cents.
Another year goes by and we hunker down - prepared to keep both of our vehicles when they are paid off soon... no new cars for us. I'll be driving mine until the bolts rust and the doors fall off.
We'll need the car note money to pay for the gas price increase and cost of living increase. In case you hadn't noticed, all the goods in the country are more expensive since gas has made the price of transport and shipping go up. Don't know about you, but are you suffering at the grocery store lately? Remember a day when you didn't HAVE to clip coupons?
How these stupid light bulbs and cap & trade taxes are going to help the economy, no-body knows. Sorry, but the economy is a bit more important to me than some rare albino salamander in the Edward's Aquifer. Or the doomsdayist global warming alarmism (that's an incomplete sentence ON PURPOSE). Not to say I don't love nature, I do... but using nature as a tool to suck the food off of my table with extra taxes is just low-down and dirty politics. It's the thing that revolutions are made of. Tea and taxes. Government growing too big for their breeches.
I say 'keep your ugly, unnatural, blue light bulbs and your fingers out of my wallet'.
Let the American people alone so we can get on with the business of living - free from tyranny and oppression... free from insatiable, corrupt Government greed.

Listen, I believe in paying fair taxes, but this is ridiculous. How do you explain to your children about taxes - tax at the store, property taxes, death taxes, taxes on your winnings from contests, social security (which won't be around for long), and on and on it goes.
I'm surprised that more people aren't bothered by the fact that they plan on taxing us on the very air we breathe.

If the cap & trade thing would do anything other than kill the economy, an argument might be made. But it isn't going to save your salamanders, or anything else.
The energy they want us to use accounts for less than 10% of all usage. Hydroelectric is about maxed. Nuclear is a no go. That leaves wind. And do you know how many square miles of windmills it takes to make the same energy as one power plant?
And you can't put them on bird migration routes because they eat those poor winged things for dinner.
If even I know this, they do to. Which makes it hard for me to buy that it has anything at all to do with the environment.

Isn't it just lovely that the standards the elitists (big government) want us to follow, they refuse to follow themselves?
They have the best healthcare plan imaginable, do not pay into social security and will receive the same pay until they die.
Oh and carbon credits crack me up....basically, you pay to pollute. "Yes, I'm quite upset with Mother Nature today, here's fifty bucks, now I think I'll go fire up the ol' Suburban." In reality, WE pay, so Al Gore can have a bigger carbon footprint...which doesn't even exist.

Besides which, those ugly, expensive light bulbs are full of MERCURY GAS and, therefore toxic waste and dangerous if broken. (Supposedly, breaking just one isn't enough mercury to be problematic, but still, with little ones around, do we really want to take that chance when the regular light bulbs don't have that problem?)

I am so sick and tired of people in Washington who know nothing of what my life is like .
I think my hard earned dollar belongs to me to give ,to share ,to spend as God leads not as the Goverment demands.
Wake up people and throw off the apathy before there is no longer a choice .

Seriously, though. Well said, Heather and all the commenters. Our government is becoming a big, huge Jaba the Hut, oozing out into places it does not belong, suffocating its citizens. Blech!
I think we all need to step up on our soap boxes. I've had enough! Dare we stay quiet? Our country, our freedoms, are being taken away from us before our very eyes and we won't be able to afford living in the country that this one if turning into. Everyone stand up and be counted!!

Carbon offsets remind me of the old Church indulgences Martin Luther spoke against.
I saw an interview with T. Boone Pickens where he said we're sitting on enough natural gas to provide energy for the next 100 years and get us off foreign oil. He also says he supports the Cap and Trade bill because there's a lot of "good stuff" in it.
Good for him, I suppose. We'll see how the rest of us fare.
