Summer Break: Too Much Free Time?
Our laundry pile was spilling out of the wall hamper here at my friend's house. She graciously has given us her upstairs bathroom and two bedrooms for our own as we wait for our closing on the house. I asked my 10 year old son to help me sort out the laundry by color so we could do some wash. While he sorted, I was picking up and making beds.
"Mama," he said, "Not doing chores for so long has made my brain turn into mush."
I had to laugh. "Really, Kaden? You mean you think we need to get to work as soon as we get in our new house and maybe start school up early?"
He thought about that for a minute. "I do want some free time." He dropped his last shirt on the white pile and turned to look at me with the most serious expression. "But not THIS much free time!"
Wow. All those years making him pick up after himself are starting to pay off! This is the same kid that asked me when he was only 4 or 5 years old if I had kids 'just to have a slave').

That's so great when you get to see your kids "get" something! There truly is fruit, and it's usually unexpected.
That's one smart guy for figuring that out on his own!
