Family Friendly Movie Night Give-Away (5 Movies and Popcorn!)

Family movie nite blog give-away...

I love a family movie night. We don't watch TV at our house (not even the news - we get that online and via the radio)... so movie night is really a treat. Sometimes we do live-streaming videos from Netflix via the Xbox or Wii... sometimes we watch Netflix DVDs that are shipped to us (when we can remember to return them), and other times, we rent or buy them. I was delighted to make a friend in the wholesome, family-friendly movie world most recently - someone who will ship me movies to get my opinion of them... someone who will give me extra movies to share with YOU!

Does your family enjoy a movie night every now and then? Are you wishing for more quality films that aren't full of profanity and flesh? I've got a great set of five below... each with a short review and a link for you to check them out further. I'm also giving away this ENTIRE set of movies to ONE winner... if you can answer five questions; and I bet it will only take you about five minutes, too!

Ready to go on an online scavenger hunt? I feel a family movie night coming on! Just click the links, find the answer, and hit BACK on your browser to come back and leave a comment. More ways to win are listed below...

Movie #1: THE WAY HOME (starring Dean Cain)...

This movie (based on a true story) is about a man who is torn between his work and family life - the 'too busy dad'. When he is asked to watch his son while they prepare to spend a weekend away as a family, the little boy wanders away in to the woods. I love the quote from the back of the movie itself:

"Randy and Christal's strained marriage must now weather the ultimate test - the potential loss of a child. THE WAY HOME is the story of Randy's powerful spiritual journey back to love, faith and a Godly understanding of what must always take first priority in a man's life - his family."

Amen! And as the song, 'Busy Man' by Billy Ray Cyrus says, "I've never seen a headstone with these words: 'If only I had spent more time at work!'..."

ENTRY SCAVENGER QUESTION: Visit the website below and tell me what the name of the BOOK that the movie is based on is titled (leave your answer in the comments section).

Movie Facebook Page:
The Way Home Facebook Fanpage

Please consider joining the facebook fan page by choosing “LIKE” when you get there and then sharing the page with your friends and family who you think may also enjoy the movie.

Movie #2: Really Woolly® Kids TRUSTING IN THE SHEPHERD

Dayspring is one of my favorite Christian product sources. They really outdid themselves with this cute children's video about overcoming your fears and trusting that God is watching over you. In a world full of Cartoon Network trash, we welcome wholesome animation in to our house with open arms!

ENTRY SCAVENGER QUESTION: What was the original release date for the movie according to the webpage? Leave your answer in the comments section for one entry to win the entire set of movies.

Bringing Up Bobby Movie

Movie #3: Bringing Up Bobby

I don't like to play favorites, but this movie really touched my heart. It had humor and sadness - a bit of the grime of the real world - and enough silly to make a HARD message easier to swallow. Bobby is being raised by his brother because his parents died when he was young. He struggles with growing up and discovering who he really is and what he believes. Every person in the movie is going through their own struggle as Bobby bounces his questions off of them and watches their example. Will he turn out like materialist sister, his paranoid nomadic brother, or his obscure Goth friends at school? Will he get the new girl to notice him? How much of his parent's estate will he get at the reading of the will after his 16th birthday? I don't want to tell you much more because it would ruin the movie. It's so much more fun if you don't know what's coming next.

ENTRY SCAVENGER QUESTION: If you visit the movie webpage below and scroll down a bit, you'll see the main character, Bobby, on a couch. What does bobby have on his head? Leave this answer - and a CAPTION for the photo - in the comments for one entry to win the entire set of movies!

Movie website:

Upside Movie

Movie #4: Upside

Soli (Solomon White, played by Randall Bentley) seems to have it all - money, a girlfriend, friends, popularity, talent, charm and an ivy league scholarship on a silver platter. What he doesn't have is happiness, faith, and purpose. After a horrible head injury, his vision is flipped upside down and his life follows. In the middle of his struggle to find the strength and direction needed to move forward, he meets someone who opens his eyes - even though she's blind herself. She shows him that there's an UP-side to life's disappointments.

I really enjoyed this movie even though it had some strange poetic spots that I never quite figured out. Watch it and you'll "see" what I mean. Other than that, the movie has a great message - especially for older kids (15+).

ENTRY SCAVENGER QUESTION: Click over to the movie website and click the navigation link entitled 'Study Guide' (which provides 2 Bible study guides that go along with the movie). What is the title of Bible Study Guide #2? Leave the answer in the comments for one entry to win the entire set of movies!

Movie website:

Movie Facebook Page:
Upside Movie Facebook Fanpage

The Mysterious Islands

Movie #5: The Mysterious Islands

The Mysterious Islands is a story about a boy and his father - and a team of researchers - who wanted to go to the seat of the Darwinian controversy and discover Galapagos for themselves. Doug and Joshua Phillips and noted researcher John Morris discuss the Theory of Evolution and the biblical account of Creation while setting out on a quest to examine the mysterious islands (and their inhabitants) that have spawned a century of argument over origins.

The beginning of the movie is slow - but the purpose of the film is centered around the discussion over origins, so I understood from the beginning that it was necessary to some extent. If you can push through that first section where most of the 'setting-the-scene' talking happens, the rest of the film unfolds to amazing island camera footage - gorgeous crystal blue seas, interesting creatures, beautiful scenery everywhere the camera turns! Totally worth the viewing.

ENTRY SCAVENGER QUESTION: Click over to the movie website and click the navigation link entitled 'About the Movie' (which provides a drop down box where you can click 'Meet the Animals'). Name your favorite of the animals listed in the comments of this post for one entry to win the entire set of movies!

Disclosure: These 5 movies were given to me free of charge to review. The opinions in this post are my own (I wouldn't recommend a movie to you that I wouldn't sit through and watch myself). I can't guarantee you'll like these movies as much as I did... but I'm betting you'll probably like them if you enjoy reading my blog. I can't guarantee that the grease on the popcorn won't cause your arteries to clog, either - no matter who you are.

We saw Upside advertised on another movie we watched recently and thought it looked good. The 2nd study guide is called: How does God measure success?

My favorite animal - for the cuteness factor- would probably be the Fur Seal Pup. But, I was excited to see the Blue Footed Booby there as well - I put together a really neat unit study on this bird for The Old Schoolhouse Magazine (it's part of The Curiosity Files series).

I have always loved Galapagos tortoises, so I would choose him. What a great pet--150-year life span. No heartbreak! :)

We would love this movie. We're heavily Creation-based in our studies and music mission, and would probably especially enjoy the "slow" part of the movie with all the scientific set up and discussion.
